check out day
We had a horrible night's sleep due to a plague of mosquitoes. The ferry wasn't until 2:30 so we asked the proprietor, Maria, if we could have the room until then and sleep in. She told me that we had spectacular weather and ironically the summer was terrible and windy. She said October is a great time to visit as the hoards of tourists have left and the local people are "nicer". I complimented the furniture in the room and she said it is all locally made antiques and she strives to keep the decor of the rooms authentic to the island.

recommended rooms in Sifnos
We went to the beach and sat in the shade for an hour and read before getting our bags and walking to the port. On the way we got awful bland sandwiches called toasties (as they are called in the Netherlands) and ate them at the ferry dock. We got a bag of oregano flavored Lay's which were AMAZING!!!!!

we need these in New York
While having lunch we saw the taxi driver from a few days ago fishing again off the dock. I hope he caught something.

The ferry was right on time for Milos. It was only an hour. We disembarked and saw the hotel, Villa Notos, marked on a tourist map so we knew which way to walk.

It was only a few minutes from the dock. The room was large and beautiful with a view onto the ocean. We dropped off our bags then took a quick dip in the water just outside our room. We checked out the town, Adamas. There were lots of restaurants along a seaside boulevard, lots of options for tonight. Already we could see this island is larger than Sifnos. We were happy that we picked two different sized islands and especially happy we didn't go to one of the insanely touristy ones like Mykonos or Santorini.
Today is our 6th wedding anniversary! We wanted to do something special even though just the mere fact of being here was more than special enough. We read that sunsets in Plaka are spectacular because it is perched on a hill so we took a bus up to it and found Utopia Café, recommended especially for the sunset.

spectacular
We just made the sunset by 5 minutes and it was a top notch show. We will always remember that place as we toasted our sixth wedding anniversary. An American man offered to take this picture.

married 6 years and many more to come
After the very last light disappeared, we wandered around for another bar. The village is quite small and some of the few places we found were closed. We did find one trendy bar open (and empty) and had a glass of wine. We were the only people there and the 60 year old bartender looked very out of place to the sound of trashy Euro music. We thought she could be the mother of the owner.

pre dinner drinks
We picked a taverna for dinner and sat outside. After a warm welcome by a very nice man who spoke some English, we ordered 4 mezés but he said 3 were plenty so we took his advice and he was right.

We ordered pasta with octopus, roasted salt cod with potatoes, and giant beans in tomato sauce. It was scrumptious and the atmosphere was lovely. We ended with our first Greek coffees and they really packed a punch! He called us a taxi as there were no buses running after 8pm.
